Press Release Aug 28, 2016

In a statement this week, AAU National Chair Keith Noll announced the sanctioning of the NIHF (National Independent Hockey Federation). The NIHF is the newest member of the AAU Ice Hockey family and provides A - AA and AAA levels of play at events including non-checking and checking divisions for Bantam and non-checking Midget.

Current NIHF members include the GNAHL (Greater Niagara Amateur Hockey League) with over 200 teams from Mite to Midget, the AAU Elite North American Showcase Series for 7 and 8-year-old players, and the “ORHL” (Ontario Rep Hockey League) from Canada with over 60 teams planned for this season.

Our goal is to see players graduate from our U6 programs to the U16, U18, Junior Programs and the NCAA. The NIHF also provides non-checking for Midget and both non-checking and checking for Bantam. We encourage Bantam and Midget teams at the A level to consider a non-checking program for the safety of their players who are no longer pursuing the highest level of hockey.

The NIHF is also focused on developing AAA talent and thus operates a unique 12 team 2008/09 Elite Tournament Series in Toronto, Chicago, and Detroit.

Of special note in the schedule is our Mite Madness event October 14-16 as we highlight the youngest talent in the AAU. However, we have a full slate of events for all ages for you to attend.

The NIHF is also hosting the North American Championships March 24-26 for Peewee, Checking and Non-Checking Bantam along with Non-Checking Midget.

You can register for any event right now on the NIHF website www.nihf.hockey. For our USA partners look for Canadian events as well, and receive significant savings on the USD/CDN $ exchange rates.
